Flora & Fauna

I’m by no means a botanical expert, in fact I can just about see the difference between a Dandelion and a Buttercup. One is spellt with a “D” and the other with a “B”

Colour Gallery

Flora and Fauna is devoted to those subjects that I see out in the field but also in parks, gardens or even plant life shot at home in my study. I must admit that I have very little knowledge of the different plant life that I have in front of the camera but I do like to shoot the wonderful details of nature and not just the wide expanse of a landscape.

It’s always a pleasure venturing out into the countryside and being able to appreciate the colours and wide variety of plant life that add so much colour and interest to the landscape. Being in a field surrounded by Poppies or Sunflowers does the eyes and soul good. Set against a mountain backdrop or a deep blue sky, there’s nothing to beat it.

“What we do see depends mainly on what we look for. … In the same field the farmer will notice the crop, the geologists the fossils, botanists the flowers, artists the colouring, sportmen the cover for the game. Though we may all look at the same things, it does not all follow that we should see them.”

Did You Know?

Flora is the name given to the collective plant life that grows or once grew in a certain area or during a given time period. It usually refers to the native plant life present but does include new species that have been introduced as well. Both the flora and fauna of the earth have been given sub-divisions. Fauna is also distinguished in many different ways. However, these ways are much more complex than floral divisions because animal life has evolved into many different forms.
