Colour Gallery

Flora & Fauna is devoted to those subjects that I see out in the field but also in parks, gardens or even plant life shot at home in my study. I must admit that I have very little knowledge of the different plant species that I have in front of the camera but I do like to shoot the wonderful details of nature & not just the wide expanse of a complete landscape.

It’s always a pleasure venturing out into the countryside & being able to appreciate the colours & wide variety of plant life that add so much interest to the environment. Being in a field surrounded by Poppies or Sunflowers does the heart & soul good, not to mention the eyes. Set against a mountain backdrop or a deep blue sky, there’s nothing to beat it.

“What we do see depends mainly on what we look for. … In the same field the farmer will notice the crop, the geologists the fossils, botanists the flowers, artists the colouring, sportsmen the cover for the game. Though we may all look at the same things, it does not all follow that we should see them.”

― John Lubbock, The Beauties Of Nature & The Wonders Of The World We Live In.

“Cherish the natural world because you’re part of it & you depend on it.”

 ― Sir David Attenborough

“An agricultural landscape produces food but it also provides water, requires biodiversity to underpin soil function, pollination & other useful services & also has value to society in terms of aesthetics & recreation.”

― Tim Benton, UK Global Food Security Programme (2012)

“In wilderness I sense the miracle of life, & behind it our scientific accomplishments fade to trivia.”

 ― Charles Lindbergh

Did You Know?

Flora is the name given to the collective plant life that grows or once grew in a certain area or during a given time period. It usually refers to the native plant life present but does include new species that have been introduced as well. Both the flora & fauna of the earth have been given sub-divisions. Fauna is also distinguished in many different ways. However, these ways are much more complex than floral divisions because animal life has evolved into many different forms.
