My second visit to the Sexten region of the Dolomites was almost seven years later, time just flies, it is unbelievable. Obviously having a day job as a Digital Artist doesn’t give me the time frame I could do with in comparison to a full-time photographer to visit these places more frequently. I know this sounds like a moan, it isn’t, it’s just me looking for an excuse to explain why I haven’t revisited such a scenic location more often only being a few hours drive from home.

I chose the Sexten area again as my first visit had impressed me so much especially around Lake Misurina & The Three Peaks (Tre Cime de Lavaredo) that I just had to return & explore the area in more depth. I wasn’t to be disappointed either as the weather was just beautiful with the Autumn colours to boot.

I spent practically my whole time camped at the Three Peaks and was awakened in the mornings to some beautiful low clouds in the valley below & sun stroked, spike capped peaks, an awesome experience that make me want more & more.

“All climbers come to the Dolomites – just as they go to Yosemite – at least once in their life. They come here to express themselves & to follow their predecessors on the most difficult routes.”

– Reinhold Messner, Mountaineer

“Each mountain in the Dolomites is like a piece of art. Le Corbusier called them the most beautiful buildings in the world. He said God built them; I’d say nature did. They are so vertical & each peak is different. The Dolomites have a special face: no other range in the world has this.”

– Reinhold Messner, Mountaineer
